so i don’t usually post on weekends, but, holy shit, this just couldn’t wait. o’death has posted a new song on their myspace called “home.” “home” comes to us from their upcoming album, “broken hymns, limbs & skin.” the new album, they’ve said, comes out august 22nd in germany, then “later” everywhere else. we all like germany and all, but o’death has avid fans elsewhere. i’ll let you guys know as soon as they release the official “everywhere else” date.

my first reaction upon listening to “home” was “this sounds a bit like the violent femmes,” that’s not a bad thing of course. the song has a slow intro, simple guitar riff, bass heavy, with very simple percussion (a maraca of some sort if i’m not mistaken). then the crash symbol, fiddle, and the banjo come in giving me that warm, fuzzy, feeling in that very special o’death way. it is, of course, an amazing song. i swear, and you can quote me on this, o’death can not write a bad song. period. i am beside myself with excitement for the new album. i’ve already listened to the new song “home” five times. it was hilarious, as soon as i saw that they had a new song up, i couldn’t get my headphones on fast enough, they were all tangled and i was kind of fidgety. my girlfriend was making fun of me.

so go to their page and listen to the new song and get hyped for the new album. check back cause i’ll let you know when it’s coming out in places that aren’t germany.

listen to one of the best albums ever made… head home by o’death. then buy it.

o’death is one of the best acts out there. here are a few more ways to appreciate them…

my new obsession

November 26, 2007

so my new obsession is a band called o’death.

listen to head home from o’death.

Five guys, maybe three shirts between them, take to the stage. There’s a banjo, a fiddle, a drum set littered with gas cans, chains, and broken cymbals.”

the singer goes from folksy singing to howling and back again without missing a step.

i don’t listen to many bands like these guys, but ever since the first time i heard them i’ve been hooked. they’re like a jam session you’d hear sitting around a campfire in the mountains. just guys having a good time, playing from their souls.

there is a real, raw quality to their sound. nothing over produced. it sounds like its coming out of an old phonograph, not quite what grandpa would play, but definitely influenced by it.

like: tom waits on speed, the pixies, the pogues
