anthony kiedis, of the red hot chili peppers, is working on a series for hbo focusing on his childhood and growing up with his father, “spider,” whom was a drug dealer and existentialist of the rock ‘n roll and showbiz lifestyles of the 70’s.

about his father “spider” anthony said,

“He introduced me to the arts, to a more culturally magnificent life, but some of it was this heavy, adult matter that I wasn’t quite capable of digesting. … It was a very rich but kind of challenging period of my life. I was thrust into this adult mentality by age 11.”

the show is tentatively being called, scar tissue, but is not related to kiedis’ book. the series will also showcase west hollywood and l.a. in the 1970’s, and the various rockstars that anthony and his father encountered there.

anthony is considering narrating the show and may make cameos.

i apologize for the complete and utter lack… halt of kiedis quotes. it was completely unintentional. i kind of inadvertently stopped posting them. i’m kind of burnt out on it, and honestly pretty hard pressed to find new pictures and quotes. on the plus side though i have a pretty extensive archive of great pictures and quotes of the one and only anthony kiedis.

this isn’t the end completely, but it is a… hiatus, yeah that sounds good. who knows, maybe i’ll throw some out there here and there as i’m listening to the chili peppers if they strike me right.

i’ve also been toying with the idea of either giving the spotlight over to another singer, by either providing a list of potentials and having votes or having submissions. haven’t quite decided. if you’d like you can submit singers and i’ll consider them. who knows maybe you guys and gals will suggest an amazing person that i never would have thought of, you’re all so uncannily savvy. my naughty little monkeys! (see below)

anyway… take care, keep reading, live long and prosper, and all that.

thanks for reading,

the chili peppers are taking a hiatus of at least a year. anthony kiedis explained that from 1999 when they started writing “californication” until the release of “stadium arcadium” they were pretty much constantly writing. “it was really grueling, we were all emotionally and mentally zapped,” he said. the four chili peppers plan on pursuing separate projects, and basically resting and enjoying life.

here is an excerpt from anthony’s interview with rolling stone,

“We’re disbanded for the moment. We actually took a very long time to make the Stadium Arcadium record, because we wrote a lot of songs and then got way too married to them and decided we need it to be a double album. Which was a great experience, but it took forever. It was really a grueling, long haul and it followed two other very long hauls, Californication and By the Way. So we kind of started in 1999 with the writing and the recording of Californication and we didn’t really stop until the tour ended last year. We were all emotionally and mentally zapped at the end of that run. Cooler heads prevailed and the discussion at the end of our last tour was, “Let’s not do anything Red Hot Chili Peppers-related for a minimum of one year, and just live and breathe and eat and learn new things.” I was about to have a brand new son. Flea is very inspired to re-up his musical direction and ability and skill and he wants to learn new stuff. John [Frusciante] has been firing away on his own, making different solo projects. And Chad [Smith] joined a jazz band and went to Japan. I’m just home, hanging out with this really cool little kid, learning how to surf. But I’m starting to get just a little bit of a tingle that it would be nice to start thinking about songs and pieces of music. But just pieces.”

i’m sure we are all hoping that this temporary break doesn’t become permanent, but what will be, will be. we shall all just have to wait and see.
