oh my god oh my god futurama is back!!
June 10, 2009

that’s right. you read it right. futurama has officially made the “family guy” comeback that we’ve all been waiting for.
futurama has been signed for TWO more seasons just to start, that’s 26 new episodes. the new season is said to pick right after the storyline of the last futurama movie “into the wild green yonder.”
writer/creator david x. cohen had some reassuring words about the upcoming writing direction:
“what we will try to do is go a little bit back to pure comedy, characters and sci-fi.”
that’s good to hear. i really liked the four movies that they released, but they were a bit out there. now granted it is a show that takes place 1000 years in the future with aliens, mutants, robots, monsters, and disembodied heads in jars of people from our time, but the direction that they took the movies was less grounded then the series was. it’s just like how the simpsons became; they exhausted all of the everyday story lines so they started doing wacky out-of-this-world stuff. i’m really excited to see what they come up with, especially considering how they resolved most of the key story arcs.
this post doesn’t even touch on a fraction of how excited i am about this. this is like how normal people would feel about having kids or whatever the devil you people usually do.
the new series will start sometime in the middle of 2010.
stay tuned for updates.
i am a huge fan of conan o’brien and i caught his debut as the new tonight show host that aired tonight. it was a pretty good show, but he didn’t get up to his usual wacky antics. i figured that he’s trying to appeal to jay leno’s crowd and he’ll slowly work in his trademark insanity as he goes.
his guest was will ferrell who is nominated for a tony for his performance in you’re welcome america. a final night with george w. bush, which was amazing. if you haven’t seen it yet you have to. but that’s for a different post.
i wanted to talk about pearl jam‘s performance. they played a song from their forthcoming album, backspacer. the performance was good and i liked the song, but the vocals were way too low. the rest of the band way overpowered vedder’s vocals. i felt bad for them. they got to perform a debut song from their upcoming album on conan’s tonight show debut and the guy at the soundboard effed up the vocals. as i was discussing this earlier with someone they said, “well the only place they have to go from here is up, the album cut will sound better than this performance.” which is true.
i’ll post the video of their performance here as soon as it’s available. for now enjoy conan o’brein apple picking with mr. t. it’s epic!
and here it is. pearl jam performing “got some” from their upcoming album, backspacer.

something, something, something, dark side is family guys remake of star wars episode V: the empire strikes back. it was originally supposed to air as the series finale of the seventh season, which just ended, but for some reason it has been pushed back to the premier of the eighth season which will air sometime in september.
stay tuned for the exact release date.

here is video of one song, “mykonos,” from fleet foxes’ performance last night. enjoy.

i was watching “the bubble boy” episode of seinfeld and this part made me laugh. seinfeld is a very subtle show that most people don’t get. it’s all about sociology and behavioral psychology. my psychology teacher this last semester would actually show us clips from episodes and have us identify the different psychological situations. unfortunately, there was no video that i could put here directly, but here is a link to the full episode if you would like to watch it. enjoy.

(george fighting with the bubble boy. the picture and the quote aren’t from the same part)
bubble boy’s dad (to jerry): we were watching you on t.v.
jerry: do you get in the bubble with him?
bubble boy’s dad: no, he can see through the bubble, it’s plastic.
jerry: oh, i thought it was like an igloo.
bubble boy’s dad: no it’s clear.
elaine: who has the remote?
bubble boy’s dad: he does.
elaine: the remote goes through the bubble?
bubble boy’s dad: yeah, he’s in the bubble with the remote.
jerry: so you have no control over the remote?
bubble boy’s dad: no, it’s frustrating.

fleet foxes on snl this saturday
January 15, 2009

fleet foxes are going to be on saturday night live this saturday the 17th. they are going to play two of my favorite songs, “mykonos” and “blue ridge mountains.” also, the same snl will be hosted by none other than the beautiful and talented rosario dawson. that has to be the best snl in recent memory. i won’t even care if the skits are shit like they always are, it will be worth it to see fleet foxes and rosario dawson.
if you’ve never heard fleet foxes, do yourself a favor and check them out. on their myspace they have both songs that they will be performing on snl and a few more from their latest highly acclaimed album. fleet foxes are one of my most cherished bands of late, and will continue to be for years to come.
as per usual, if you miss fleet foxes’ performance i will post it here if it becomes available, otherwise i will provide a link so you can watch it.
below is a good introductory if you’re new to fleet foxes, and it’s also just a beautiful song.

quote of the day #8

i was watching this family guy the other day on hulu. the end of the episode was one of the best things that i’ve seen in a long time. i was still staring at the screen with my mouth gaping even after the episode was over. the basic set up is that brian, the family dog (yes, he can talk), is getting old so the family replaces him with a younger dog who they call new brian. everyone except stewie loves him, so stewie is trying to get rid of him… enjoy.
this is the clip that the quote is from. you can watch the full episode here on hulu.
stewie: we especially don’t like the way you hump that chair in the den.
new brian: well rupert seems to like my humping.
stewie: what did you say?
new brian: rupert. humped him for two hours yesterday, he just layed there and took it.
stewie: did he?
new brian: yeah. and now every time you’re sleeping with him, he’s going to be thinking of me.
stewie: (unblinking stare at new brian)

i got burnt out on doing the anthony kiedis quotes and i’m sorry because i know how much you guys loved them. i was trying to choose who would be the next singer whom i would be quoting. i decided that i’m not going to designate the quotes to one specific person, i’m just going to choose random quotes from random people; and they won’t even always be music related, sometimes not even from famous people, they’ll just be insane things that i heard that day. honestly, the quotes will probably mostly be from either the simpsons or futurama for obvious reasons.
the quote of the day thing started for me at one of my old jobs. the assistant manager and i would write funny quotes and facts on a board that was designated for important announcements. everyone there loved it, so it just stuck. it became one of those things that people would look forward to. because at a shitty job, it’s the little things that keep your spirits up. so as i come across entertaining or intellectually stimulating quotes i will share them with you.
enjoy.
quote of the day #1
“burn on that old crew. the only things they did better than us were suck and die.”
