ground control magazine presents: bikeride
July 15, 2008
thank you to ben at thevanderbeeks.com for showing me this video. this video is a short interview with the wonderful band “bikeride” lead by the late tony carbone. this was actually the first tony carbone/bikeride material i’ve experienced since tony’s untimely passing. it tugged at some heartstrings, but it was nice to see tony happy and at work doing what he loved.

March 7, 2008

so i was sitting here with my laptop listening to “like spinning plates,” by radiohead. and i thought to myself, “self, i’m going to check on tony carbone, see how he’s doing.”
and this is what i came across…
“On March 6, 2008 we lost our dear friend Tony Carbone. He passed away in his sleep without any pain or struggle after being on hospice in his home for 5 weeks. Thank you all so much for your support in coming to the two benefit concerts and the silent auction and raffle. Literally hundreds of people showed up to these events, making them a huge success. There will be a Service for him on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 2:00 PM. Immanuel Community Center 3215 E. 3rd Street ~ Long Beach ~ CA ~ 90814 In lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Melanoma Foundation AMF 12395 El Camino Real, Suite 117 San Diego, CA 92130 or donations can be made online at www. melanomafoundation Again, thank you all for your incredible outpour of support. Tony’s family and Sinnamon are so touched by the incredible friends Tony has. It’s a testimate to the amazing one of a kind person that he was.”
i never met tony in person, but he still managed to make and leave an impression on my life. i wrote a few posts promoting benefits for him, just spreading the word for a good cause, but i got invested. i lost all the air from my lungs when i read that first sentence.
i think “like spinning plates” is appropriate. so i dedicate it (on repeat) to tony carbone’s memory and wish that his friends and family not suffer for long. he would have wanted them to smile and be happy and carry on his memory with their love. and finally, that tony rest in tranquil peace for all eternity, because that is all i can give to whom i’m sure was a wonderful person, who deserves much much more than i could ever give.
i have lost loved ones, and my special girl too just suffered a loss recently. life is cruel sometimes and it doesn’t always make sense. but we just have to keep moving forward and carry our fondest memories with us of those we lose along the way so that we don’t go astray, or get scared in times of darkness and turmoil.
rest in peace tony carbone, you won’t be forgotten.

benefit show for tony carbone w/ the aquabats!
January 16, 2008

“Tony Carbone is a 34-year old elementary teacher for the Long Beach Unified School District. Two years ago, Tony was diagnosed with Stage IV melanoma (the most aggressive and life threatening form of skin cancer), which spread to his brain. …Tony and his wife have nowhere to turn. Tony’s Avastin cycle, recommended by his doctor, will cost $30K. Tony’s family and friends are organizing a fund raiser to help pay for the cost.”
The Aquabats! are going to perform at this fund raiser to help Tony and his family. We hope for the best but on top of that we’re going to do our best to help!
There will be a raffle and all donations are welcome!
Come on down and bring generous wallets of love and kindness!”
