chris conly and david soloway of saves the day and max bemis and coby linder of say anything will be releasing the self-titled debut album of their new side project two tongues february 3rd.

two tongues began when chris, max, and coby worked together on “the man in me,” a bob dylan cover for the bob dylan comp paupers, peasants, princes & kings: the songs of bob dylan. after doing the song max asked chris if he would want to make an album and chris said, “i would do it with no one else.”

there are two songs from the upcoming album, “wowee zowee” and “crawl,” that you can listen to on two tongues’ myspace. if you pre-order the new album you get a free download of the song “crawl” and a free limited edition two tongues t-shirt.

so do you have any albums that you haven’t listened to in a long time, because they evoke certain feelings that you would really not like to revisit?

well this is one of them. it is “stay what you are,” by saves the day. for those of you who don’t know saves the day… they are an indie rock band from jersey.

their earlier albums were more on the punk side, not the traditional punk side, but the pop punk side. (“in this corner weighing in at half a ton and wearing barbed wire on his knuckles… old school punk. and in the other corner weighing in at 98lbs., pale, scrawny, and probably wetting himself… pop punk”)

wild tangent: ok, i like pop punk music. it’s good fun, lots of energy, really catchy. but why in the name of all things holy do they call it, “pop punk” there is nothing punk about it. it is in fact, the exact opposite of punk. real punk bands would shoot themselves if they had to play that music. i can recognize the standpoint that a punk band can be popular, but they would never be on mtv or any of those teeny bopping magazines. sorry, but it bothers me, they should have a different name for the genre. do you concur?

this album is poppier than their previous albums. this album also got them signed to a major label, dreamworks records, which was later absorbed by interscope records.

in the car traveling back from chicago (to where i lived at the time). i awoke to “at your funeral,” the first track on this album. it was like an alarm the way it woke me up.

this was shortly after my “doves epiphany”. needless to say if you hear this album and compare it to things i was listening to at the time (mostly metal) you will see that it is drastically different. there was just something about it. like love at first sight, but it was love at first sound.

i have, just prior to writing this, remembered how much i love this album. it was a touchy subject for me. i wouldn’t touch it with a 39 1/2 foot pole. long story short, it reminded me of an ex, and i didn’t want to be reminded. but now two years later, after pretty much forgetting about this album, i gave it a shot for kicks. and wow! did i forget how great this album is.

now that i can appreciate it with emotionless detachment, and just listen to it for what it is, i couldn’t be happier. you know what they say… “time heals all wounds.”

i would recommend this album to fans of emo, armor for sleep, dashboard confessional, new found glory, park, gratitude. basically if you only like metal and hate “whiny boys”, (unless you are open-minded like i was when i discovered them) STAY AWAY!

note: if you click on the “saves the day” link it will take you to their myspace. the music player has their new album on it though. that’s all well and fine, but you need to hear “stay what you are.” go to itunes or just take my word for it and buy it.
