Radiohead is returning to the studio to record their new album. They released “These are my Naked Words” for download back in August and now they’re returning to finish the job. Ed O’Brien had this to say about the direction of the band and the new album:

“The vibe in the camp is fantastic at present (…) I am so genuinely excited about what we’re doing, but for obvious reasons I can’t divulge anything more.. anyway we all love surprises don’t we? 10 years ago we were all collectively (that’s the band) in the land of Kid A .. and although hugely proud of that record, it wasn’t a fun place to be .. What’s reassuring now, is that we are most definitely a different band, which should therefore mean that the music is different too and that is the aim of the game….keep it moving.”

Stay tuned for more.

the title pretty much says it all.

thom yorke played a solo show at the latitude festival earlier today. he played a 12 song set including songs from his eraser album. plus, he debuted a new song, which before playing said, “this is a new song, so you know- go for a piss.”

the new song is called “the present tense.” no word yet on a new album from thom, but radiohead does have another one in the works. stay tuned for updates.

“the present tense”

the eraser is one of my all time favorite albums so if you don’t have it yet, do yourself a favor and get it.

3. Atoms For Peace
4. Harrowdown Hill (at the end of the song: “I’ll Be Your Bitch”)

6. Everything In Its Right Place
7. The Present Tense (”A New song, so you know, go for a piss”)
8. Cymbal Rush

i posted a video a while back of chris thile covering morning bell, by radiohead, but this video is longer and waaay better. this is the end of an hour long set which he played on the woodsongs old time radio show.

this cover is incredible. i was speechless other than the occasional “wow.” radiohead is one of my all time favorite bands and chris thile is one of my favorite musicians, so you can guess how exciting this was for me for chris to cover this song. he is infinitely talented.

chris thile has lately been playing in a band called punch brothers, but he is best known for his involvement in the band nickel creek.

now since the end of their recent tour, radiohead are back in the studio to record a follow up to in rainbows. regarding how the recording is going colin greenwood told bbc news:

“We just went in last week. It was really good. It was really noisy and chaotic and really fun. We’re at the stage where we’ve got the big Lego box out and we’ve tipped it out on the floor and we’re looking at all the bits and thinking, ‘What next?’”

stay tuned, more as it develops.

radiohead performed “15 step” from their latest album in rainbows with the usc trojan marching band last night at the grammys. radiohead won a grammy for “best alternative music album” for in rainbows. best album and song of the year went to coldplay for viva la vida. viva la vida paled in comparison to in rainbows and a ton of other great albums that came out last year. but it’s ok because the grammys don’t matter anyway. it’s all just a popularity contest; like prom for grown-ups.

yesterday in honor of jonny greenwood’s birthday, thom yorke posted a remix of “harrowdown hill” from his eraser project on their website dead air space. you can listen to the mp3 of the remix, “tchk harrowdown jump rmx” here c/o sterogum.

thom said:
in celebration of nov 5th
jonnys burthday
amid bonfire and fireworks in the UK
and the dawn of a new era in politics in the USA
i humbly donate a remix of harrowdown hill that was finished ages ago during the band webcasts,
a small reminder of the dark days of Bush’s….

the ever versatile dynamic duo of cee-lo and danger mouse make another euphonic triumph. with no doubt danger mouse’s influence, cee-lo fills radiohead’s “reckoner” with soul and emotion that not even thom yorke himself projects when he sings it. when cee-lo started singing i literally got chills. it is one of the best covers i’ve heard in a long time. enjoy!!

gnarls barkley covering radiohead’s “reckoner”

radiohead is completely innovative in every aspect of their being. their new video for the song “house of cards” from their groundbreaking album “in rainbows” was made without the use of any film or lights. it was made using 3D technology to collect and render the information about the shapes and relative distance of objects.

thom yorke and jonny greenwood of radiohead playing “the rip,” by portishead from their latest album “third.” this is a beautiful cover, nice and simple. like i’ve said before, everything they touch turns to gold.

listen to the original, if you haven’t heard it. the percussion, synth, and ambiance are a wonderful contrast to thom and jonny’s version.
