pet comfort, featuring former hopesfall drummer jason trabue, released their debut ep paperdolls yesterday. so far the ep is only available for purchase on their myspace.

pet comfort is nowhere near the heaviness of hopesfall so don’t get your hopes up for a hopesfall replica. pet comfort sounds like death cab meets old (good) weezer, meets the rentals, meets the get up kids, with a touch of caribou. they mix genre-specific melodies to make a very refreshing and creative sound.

since hopesfall’s unfortunate breakup early last year i have been on the lookout for the members to start new projects. jason is the first of which to do so (as far as i know and please correct me if i’m wrong). i’m still praying that jay forrest (hopesfall singer) will start a new band, i love his voice. i am very glad that i got to see them (twice!) when they were still at large, but i miss them very much. again this is not a hopesfall mourning rant it is a post to inform you of the new pet comfort ep. so go to their page and check it out, then buy it. again, go pet comfort!

hopesfall, one of my ultimate favorites, called it quits at the end of last year much to the despondency of myself and it’s legions of fans. there were… “complications” with their label, jason trabue (drummer) had this to say,

” I hate Trustkill and it’s owner. Hahahaha. He’s not the reason we broke up but i (we) do hate him. Anyway we have posted some new songs. 1 song that TK took off the record with out asking us or even telling us. What a bunch of assholes huh!?”

they have made available for download as a zip file, nine original/raw/uncut tracks here. enjoy!

i sure as hell know i’m going to keep my ears peeled for jay forrest (vocals) and anything he may conjure up now that he’s untethered and left to his devices.

i’m lucky enough to have seen them twice. once at gabes in iowa city, and once on warped tour. both were immensely dynamic shows. jay can hold his own, and when he’s backed by the many talented musicians who have played with hopesfall along the way, it is just that much better.

these are two of my favorite hopesfall songs…

“waitress”

“icarus”

i guarantee you’ll see more posts about hopesfall, so stay tuned. it’s difficult enough to keep up with current events let alone write about the random bands that i love what with working full time besides this blog. since hopesfall broke up there really hasn’t been much in the way of “current events” so they, and other ideas/projects have been pushed to the back burners, and i apologize to myself and to you. i shall try even harder to find the time to follow through with said ideas/projects that i have been wanting to do.

thank you for your infinite patience with me and continued support.
