the ever versatile dynamic duo of cee-lo and danger mouse make another euphonic triumph. with no doubt danger mouse’s influence, cee-lo fills radiohead’s “reckoner” with soul and emotion that not even thom yorke himself projects when he sings it. when cee-lo started singing i literally got chills. it is one of the best covers i’ve heard in a long time. enjoy!!

gnarls barkley covering radiohead’s “reckoner”

gnarls barkley’s song “gone baby gone” is a cover of the violent femmes song. the femmes have now covered gnarls barkley’s song “crazy,” and it is a fantastic cover.

the song is available as of june 24th as an mp3 and a limited edition 12″ vinyl that features an instrument only and a vocals only a capella version. you can also stream it on myspace.

gnarls barkley is so innovative. danger mouse, cee lo, and those whom they inspire, like wendy morgan, the director of the video, create the most beautiful things.

this is one of my favorite songs on the album, and this is a great video to go with it. that “clap clap… clap” beat gets me every time, ask anyone.

enjoy the video.

originally they were intending to release “the odd couple” on april 8th, but they pulled a fast one on us and pushed up the date to today. the album is available at itunes now. the physical album will be in stores april 1st.

“They felt the timing was right to just go for it,” said an unnamed spokesman for the band in a press release this morning. “With the shifting seasons, furtive romantic entanglements and fierce college basketball rivalries, the latter half of March can be confusing. People need to be soothed and inspired now.”

i’m getting it from itunes, i’ll let you know how it is.

warning: apparently this video is causing seizures, so if you are susceptible you may want to just go listen to the song on itunes or something. consider yourself warned.

i had no problem watching it. so don’t be afraid, it’s not like that crazy anime that makes you foam at the mouth if you watch it. that’s freaky stuff.

new gnarls barkley album!

February 7, 2008

can you say, “schoolhouse rock?”

gnarls barkley is definitely sticking with that nostalgic 70’s sound, elegantly ripped apart and reassembled by the proficient danger mouse.

leading with the single “run” (available now on itunes), the new album “the odd couple” sounds promising. “run” is very upbeat like one of my favorites, “transformer.”

“the odd couple” is scheduled for april 8th.

as far as sophomore albums go, i’m staying optimistic about “the odd couple.” gnarls barkley has a quality that so many acts nowadays are lacking.

in case you were curious how a bill becomes a law…
