directed by Allison Schulnik. grizzly bear had originally sent a few of their songs to director allison’s short film, “hobo clown.” they later asked if she would create an official video for a song from their newest album, veckatimest. this is the result.

the get up kids in iowa city

i finally got my tickets to see the get up kids in iowa city. i’m so excited. when i heard that they had broken up i was devastated because i had never seen them. myself and a bunch of die-hard get up kids fans/friends of mine are super psyched.

hopefully you can get to see them on this tour because who knows how long this reunion will last. hopefully it will last a long time.

something, something, something, dark side,  family guys remake of star wars episode V: the empire strikes back finally has a release date.

s. s. s. d. s. is the first episode of the eighth season of family guy. according to imdb, season eight will premier on sunday, september 27th on fox.

something, something, something, dark side will later be released on dvd and blue-ray on december 22nd.

new modest mouse video- king rat

king rat comes to us from modest mouse’s latest release, no one’s first and you’re next, which consists of b-sides/unreleased tracks from the albums good news for people who love bad news and we were dead before the ship even sank.

the video for king rat was fully conceived and developed by none other than heath ledger. the members of modest mouse became friends with ledger through their tour manager and while touring his native australia. ledger outlined the video idea to the band members for the then unfinished song, in opposition of “the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place of [sic] the coast of australia each year.” he intended the video–which shows whales poaching humans to make pet food– “to raise awareness on modern whaling practices.” the video was unfinished at the time of heath’s tragic and untimely death, so it was finished by the los angeles art collective/production company, and ledger was later given director’s credit.

even though no one’s first and you’re next is only an eight track ep of previously unreleased songs, don’t let that discourage you. it’s a great compilation of songs that play just like a new album with the same great sounds of good news for people who love bad news and we were dead before the ship even sank.

no one’s first and you’re next was released on august 4th, if you don’t have it yet, get it.

humbug comes out august 25th.

new wes anderson movie- the fantastic mr. fox

wes anderson’s newest movie, the fantastic mr. fox is based on the book by roald dahl (author of james and the giant peach and charlie and the chocolate factory). featuring the voices of george clooney, meryl streep, bill murray, owen wilson, and jason schwartzman.

in theaters november 13th, 2009.

currently listening to… cease to begin by band of horses

for the last few days i’ve wanted to listen to little else but cease to begin by band of horses.

this album came out october 9th, 2007. if you don’t have it, get it.

here are the first two songs from the album, both great songs, but i think the second one “ode to lrc” is one of my favorites on the album.

what can i do?- antony & the johnsons and rufus wainwright

i was just listening to i am a bird now by antony & the johnsons and i got to this song and i thought, wait a minute is that jon brion? (incredibly talented composer who composed the eternal sunshine soundtrack.) so i looked it up and it was not jon brion, it was rufus wainwright. i am sadly not very well enough acquainted with his work, but that will be changing as of now. he has a wonderful voice. i realized that recognized his voice from the moulin rouge soundtrack.

this song is so simply, utterly, exquisite.

i am a bird now is an amazing album by the way and his newer one, the crying light, is if possible, even better.

update: i received my first official notification to remove a post. apparently arctic monkeys reps are flipping their shit cracking down on all arctic monkeys posts regarding the upcoming album humbug. i had posted a youtube video of a leaked song (which i had to remove) and another post with their official music video for crying lightning (which was removed from youtube). we’ll all just have to wait til the album is released and their videos are posted by authorized users.
