the eternal return will be out this tuesday june 23rd.
the second single, “devolution of the flesh,” from darkest hour’s forthcoming album the eternal return is up now on their myspace. the first single, “no god” is still there as well.
after listening to these two songs the new album sounds really promising. their last two releases deliver us and undoing ruin were absolutely incredible. i’ve been following darkest hour ever since they were playing tiny iowa city bars years ago (where the singer tried to hang upside down from the ceiling rafters and got stuck, it was classic). in all these years of listing to darkest hour they’ve never disappointed. oh how i love consistency.

darkest hour thrash and burn tour

i saw darkest hour about five years ago and the show was amazing. now with their albums “undoing ruin” and “deliver us” the show would be incomparable. with around fourteen different bands this will be one incredible tour, be sure not to miss it.

undoing ruin by darkest hour
this album is utterly phenomenal.
their newest album “deliver us” is in stores now.
the first time i saw darkest hour was about 5 years ago at gabes (now the picador, *makes fart noise with thumb down) in iowa city, they never have any good shows since they changed to the picador. if you’ve never been to gabes it’s a tiny intimate room above a bar. the shows there were amazing. you are literally inches from the bands. there’s no auditorium-like distance. it’s just the floor with a short stage. it’s one on one. just you, the band, and as many crazy fans as that little place can pack in there. it gets insanely hot in there though.
darkest hour puts on an incredible show. i was talking to their guitarist kris norris (below) between songs and i noticed that he had musical notation tattooed on his arm. i asked him what it was from and he said it was from a song by death. he was a really nice, down to earth guy, they all are.
at gabes there are exposed rafter bars on the ceiling and at the end of the show john henry (the singer) jumped up, grabbed the bars, and hung by his legs, and he got stuck. it was hilarious. they quickly got him down. the people at gabes hate it when bands do that, but they always did it anyway.
those were great times at gabes. the place will be missed.
