i wrote a post about this a while back, around the time that chuck was releasing snuff. i am a college student with very little time, so yes i’m just copy/pasting what i already wrote (but with a fancy new picture, alluring yes?).

pygmy will be out may 5th.

in other news, chuck has released the plot of his next book, “pygmy,” which is already written and due out some time next year.

from chuck palahniuk:

“I’ve just finished the first draft of a novel called “Pygmy,” a dark comedy about terrorism and racism. The lead character is a 13-year-old foreign exchange student sent to live with a suburban, white, middle-class family. Oh, and they’re Christians. The visit is for six months, and he’s one of a dozen similar kids, all shipped to America to live with typical families.

The secret truth is that Pygmy is a terrorist, trained since infancy in martial arts, chemistry and radical hatred of the United States. He has six months to build a prize-winning project for the National Science Fair. If he succeeds, he and his project will go to Washington, D.C. for the finals competition — where the project will explode, killing millions.

So far, Gerry Howard says it’s the best book I’ve done. Fingers crossed for luck.”

you can pre-order now from amazon.

choke in theaters today

September 26, 2008

the movie adaptation of chuck palahniuk’s book “choke” is in theaters today. it runs 1 hour and 29 minutes. directed by clark gregg. if you haven’t read the book, it’s ok i forgive you. do yourself a favor though, after you see the movie this weekend, go buy the book and read it. i guarantee you the movie will not do it justice. it may be a fantastic movie, but there’s just no way the movie can cram in all of the content; it would have to be twelve hours long. the movie will be good fun regardless. so go see it. but most importantly, read the book.

like i reported before, fight club and choke are the first of many more to come. they will probably end up making all of his books into movies, as long as the movies are making money. lullaby is casting, survivor has a director assigned, invisible monsters is being projected for 2010, and rant and diary have been optioned.

here’s a quote from “chuck” (dennis his webmster) explaining why you need to see choke this weekend:

The opening box office numbers for CHOKE might not mean much to you… but in the long-run, they’ll mean a ton to the future life of other Chuck Palahniuk adaptations. ‘Fight Club’ was a box office failure, and did not make back, domestically, what it cost to make the film. As a result, we had to wait over eight years for our next Palahniuk adaptation.

So let’s not let that happen again. Let’s all make sure CHOKE hits a homerun this weekend. I’m sure that, with the Presidential Debate on last night, they took a hit in their Friday numbers. So let’s make up for that today and tomorrow.

I know I’m talking to thousands of you here. And every one of you can make a difference. But it has to be THIS weekend.

Go see CHOKE now. Consider this a homework assignment from Chuck Palahniuk… the real Tyler Durden.

the latest installment from the heir of kurt vonnegut, chuck palahniuk…

release date: may 20th, 2008

synopsis:
“Six hundred dudes. One porn queen. A world record for the ages. A must-have movie for every discerning collector of things erotic.”

“Didn’t one of us on purpose set out to make a snuff movie.”

Cassie Wright, porn priestess, intends to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication. On camera. With six hundred men. SNUFF unfolds from the perspectives of Mr. 72, Mr. 137, and Mr. 600, who await their turn on camera in a very crowded green room. This wild, lethally funny, and thoroughly researched novel brings the huge yet underacknowledged presence of pornography in contemporary life into the realm of literary fiction at last. Who else but Chuck Palahniuk would dare do such a thing? Who else could do it so well, so unflinchingly, and with such an incendiary (you might say) climax?

chuck palahniuk definitely has a sexual obsession of sorts. from victor mancini in choke, to the biker rally story in stranger than fiction, this new book, pretty much all of survivor… and well, pretty much all of his books.

one of my favorite quotes by chuck is:

“The magic of sex is it’s acquisition without the burden of possessions. No matter how many women you take home, there’s never a storage problem.”
