nathan gray former singer of boysetsfire now leads a non political mellower band called the casting out. the only other boysetsfire former is joshua latshaw, an “honorary member” of the casting out.

the casting out have a new album called “go crazy! throw fireworks!” coming out, but they don’t have a date yet, they’ve said,

“[we] are currently courting labels and what not to put it out.”

on their myspace they have a really great song called, “these alterations” from the new album, and said that they will be putting possibly two more songs up before the album comes out.

i was and still am a huge fan of boysetsfire and the casting out is really tame in comparison, but not lacking in substance, just more subdued, keyboard heavy, and with different content, also no more screaming. nathan gray brings to the casting out the same raw emotion that he brought to boysetsfire. although with that new song “these alterations” nathan just might be showing us that he can still write those catchy, upbeat songs that we so loved from boysetsfire. we’ll see with the rest of the album if that’s the direction or if it is just that song.

stay tuned for the official release date of “go crazy! throw fireworks!”

the casting out also have a seven song ep availabe on itunes of their first songs.

gnarls barkley’s song “gone baby gone” is a cover of the violent femmes song. the femmes have now covered gnarls barkley’s song “crazy,” and it is a fantastic cover.

the song is available as of june 24th as an mp3 and a limited edition 12″ vinyl that features an instrument only and a vocals only a capella version. you can also stream it on myspace.

here are a few videos that have surfaced so far. they aren’t the national geographic webcast, they’re audience filmed so they’re kind of shaky at times, but this will have to suffice till the real one pops up. i absolutely love to watch björk bang on that drum. she looks so genuinely happy. there’s a real innocence to it like a child that plays with the box instead of the toy that came in it. she’s just wonderful.

update: i received an email from sigur rós saying,

“if you miss the live webcast, there will be an on-demand stream available from National Geographic’s web site next week.”

i apologize for the complete and utter lack… halt of kiedis quotes. it was completely unintentional. i kind of inadvertently stopped posting them. i’m kind of burnt out on it, and honestly pretty hard pressed to find new pictures and quotes. on the plus side though i have a pretty extensive archive of great pictures and quotes of the one and only anthony kiedis.

this isn’t the end completely, but it is a… hiatus, yeah that sounds good. who knows, maybe i’ll throw some out there here and there as i’m listening to the chili peppers if they strike me right.

i’ve also been toying with the idea of either giving the spotlight over to another singer, by either providing a list of potentials and having votes or having submissions. haven’t quite decided. if you’d like you can submit singers and i’ll consider them. who knows maybe you guys and gals will suggest an amazing person that i never would have thought of, you’re all so uncannily savvy. my naughty little monkeys! (see below)

anyway… take care, keep reading, live long and prosper, and all that.

thanks for reading,

-graham

björk and sigur rós are joining icelandic forces to perform a free concert in their hometown of reykjavik to raise awareness of the destruction of iceland’s natural landscapes.

the concert will be webcast live on saturday june 28th from 7pm-10pm gmt (3pm-6pm est) on national geographic music.

in a recent press statement, the queen of the oddity, björk herself said:

“Too often battles being fought for nature turn into something negative and into mudslinging,” “We will not go that way, we are not saying that this and that is forbidden, we are rather asking ‘what about all these other possibilities?’ The 21st century is not going to be another oil century but rather a century where we need to recycle, think green and design both power plants and our surroundings in harmony with nature.”

both björk and sigur rós have new albums out. björk released “volta” last year, and sigur rós released “Með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust” just last tuesday.

visit náttúra’s website for more information.

if you miss the live feed i’ll hunt down the video and post it here if it comes available.

some may, some may not. well if you’re game they’re streaming it on their myspace right now! i’m listening to it as i type this. i haven’t given up on them because of “crimson.” i’ve already heard a couple songs that they had posted, “help me” and “in vein,” and they sounded promising. so being very optimistic i am giving them a fighting chance.

when “over and out” picked up after its bass heavy intro, it made me smile. i think every thing’s going to be ok. i’ll give you my official summation after i’m through listening to it.

what are you waiting for?! go listen for yourself!!

if you like it, go buy it next tuesday, july 1st.

from their latest album, “the slip” which was and still is offered as a free download. the physical form of the album will be available in cd july 22nd, and in vinyl august 5th. the free download will be available indefinitely.
