don’t call it a comeback- i am the movie- motion city soundtrack

this was the first song i heard by these guys. it was on some comp that my ex had.
this song is a little misleading if you’ve never heard motion city soundtrack. it’s heavier and crazier than really all of their other work. so you really shouldn’t base your opinion solely on this song. it’s a great song, but it doesn’t serve as very good representation of the rest of their songs.
i saw motion city soundtrack at warped tour about three years ago. they put on an amazing live show. lots of energy, very entertaining. no gimmicks or really even light show, just great music played extremely well.
this is m.c.s.’s first album. they have gotten more poppy since this album, but they have not gone too far. they still stick to their roots, they just have gotten a lot catchier.
for any moog fans. they are a very moog-heavy band. love the moog.
this video is ridiculous, but hilarious

her middle name was boom- everything you ever wanted to know about silence- glassjaw

this album is incredible. this was one of my “transitionary albums,” it helped to open me up to other and better types of music than i was listening to.
it starts slow, gradually builds, and at the chorus it really takes off, then winds back down. towards the end he does his classic rambling/screaming that us glassjaw fans so enjoy. all in all it’s a pretty slow song, but daryl palumbo can sing fast and slow and make it great.
this video is descent but you really need to hear the real version. you really should just buy this album.

the velorium camper III: al the killer- in keeping secrets of silent earth: 3- coheed and cambria

one of my favorite co&ca songs. who am i kidding all of their songs are my favorite. they are such an amazing band.
for those of you who don’t know, the albums by co&ca are concept albums, sort of “soundtracks” for the graphic novels “the armory wars” created by singer/guitarist claudio sanchez. the whole concept of the band is just ingenious. even if you’ve never read the graphic novels you can read the lyrics and follow the story.
music written about real life things like life, love, loss, and war, are all well and fine but this is just something different, it’s very creative. not only does their music tell a story, but it is really good music. they could have had the same concept and bombed on the music aspect, but they didn’t because they rock.

autumn shade II- winning days- the vines

my boss at an old job showed me the vines. it was around the time that all the shitty “the” bands were popular (the strokes, the hives, etc…) so i wasn’t too keen on making any attempt to check them out. he assured me that they were really good.
i checked them out and loved them. at the time he showed me the vines, i wasn’t into anything like them or any of the “the” bands, but they have all grown on me, the vines most definitely.
this song is a good testament to their beautiful sound. when i listen to them i just feel like i should be high on dope and lsd, wearing bell bottoms and smelling flowers and shit. they’re just have such a peaceful vibe.
little known fact: the singer craig nicholls has asperger’s syndrome, and he’s a very successful and talented musician. go craig!
